NAIRNE   COUNTRY   FIRE     SERVICE

Historic Fire Trucks

Nairne's first fire truck was a 1942 Chevrolet.  It was built by H.  Gierke and it fought fires for 15 years almost every 24 hours when the steam trains were running back and forth on the Adelaide to Melbourne line. They were starting lots of fires.

The Landrover was bought for 790 pounds in 1956 from a man called A.J. Bennet.  They kept it for 11 years and sold it to Mt Pleasant District Council for only 400 pounds. They made a loss.

Total Fire Bans.

On days of extreme fire danger a Total  fire  Ban may be declared to  restrict the use of fires  in the open to reduce  the wildfire risk.

Total Fire Bans apply for 24 hours from midnight to midnight. Fire Bans are broadcast on radio and television from 6:00pm and are printed in the morning paper.

A Total Fire may also be introduced or removed on the day at 7:00am, should the weather conditions be bad enough.
