Queensland's Tropical Rainforest

  INTRODUCTION

The Tropical Rainforest of North Queensland is very dense. It has many unusual animals and lots of plants. It rains almost all year round. The plants just keep growing and growing forever.

THE ELECTUS PARROT

The Electus Parrots are very colourful and bright.They have Red,Blue and Green. On the Male Electus Parrot the Blue is on the back of the tail. The Green is on the back of their wings.
On the Female Parrot the Red is on the Head, under neath the tail and Under neath the Wings. The Blue is on the Breast.
They live in a small area of the Tropical rainforest.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that Daintree National Park is about 7000 square. kilometres in size.
It is spread over the Bellenden Ker Range and the lowlands below, is believed to be the oldest virgin rainforest in the world. It originated between 50 million and 100 million years ago, when all of Australia was covered by similar rainforests.
Daintree National Park was created to protect the rainforests from tin mining, logging and major road building, each of which was proposed during the 1980s. The park occupies most of a larger region, known as the wet tropics of Queensland. It has an area of about 9200 square kilometres. The whole region was declared a World Heritage Site.

OWLS

Owls hunt bugs and little animals at night. Their flight feathers have soft fluffy edges, so owls make no noise when they hunt.

KINGFISHERS

King Fishers have big heads and long sharp beaks. The
Azure Kingfisher lives near Rainforest Streams. The Buff Breasted Paradise Kingfisher digs its nest hole into a low mound built by termites on the ground. The female and male take care of the eggs. They feed their chicks insects and snails.

FROGS

Frogs have soft moist skins and most of them live in damp places. When a male calls for a mate [a female frog], puffs out his throat.

KING PARROTS.

Like all parrots, Australian King parrots have curved beaks.When they fly, King parrots make a loud call. After the female lays its white eggs, the parents take it in turns to sit on them to keep them warm until they hatch. The King Parrot have colours mostly like the Electus Parrot.
